Boards behave like spreadsheets

monday.com's shortcuts make sense once you treat a board as a grid: Tab and Shift + Tab move between cells, the Arrow Keys roam freely, Enter edits the current cell and Backspace clears it. Ctrl + C, Ctrl + X, Ctrl + V move cell contents around exactly as a spreadsheet would, and Ctrl + Z undoes. Space opens the focused column's expanded view when a cell holds more than fits.

Selection scales the same way: Ctrl + Enter selects an item, Shift + Enter extends the selection into a range — the setup step before any bulk action. Two searches coexist: Ctrl + B is the global quick search across your whole workspace, while Ctrl + F filters only the board in front of you.

Building structure without menus

Board construction has direct keys: Ctrl + Shift + G adds a group, Ctrl + Shift + C adds a column, and Ctrl + G collapses or expands every group at once — the fastest way to get an overview of a long board. Ctrl + Shift + L opens the activity log when you need to know who changed what, Ctrl + Shift + E exports the board to Excel, Ctrl + . toggles the navigation pane for extra width, and Esc backs out of item pages, dialogs, and search.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't Ctrl + B make text bold?

On monday.com, Ctrl + B is reserved for the global quick search. Text formatting lives in the update editor's own toolbar when you write inside an item — board cells themselves hold structured values rather than rich text.

What is the difference between the two searches?

Ctrl + B searches everything you can access — boards, items, docs, people across the workspace. Ctrl + F stays on the current board and filters its items live. Reach for B to find where something is, F to narrow what you see.

How do I act on many items at once?

Select the first with Ctrl + Enter, extend with Shift + Enter to cover the range, and the bulk-action bar appears — move, archive, assign, and similar operations then apply to the whole selection in one step.

Export to Excel gave me less than the board shows. Why?

Ctrl + Shift + E exports what your permissions and current view expose — restricted columns or filtered-out items will not appear. Clear filters first if you need the full board, and check column permissions with the board owner if fields are missing.

Do these shortcuts work on macOS?

Yes — substitute Cmd for Ctrl: Cmd + B for quick search, Cmd + Shift + G for a new group. Key behaviour inside cells (Tab, Enter, Backspace) is identical on both platforms.
